Synchronization Introduction

In summary, this is where two data sources are identical at the beginning, if and when the data of one or two data source is modified, their information content will differ, to ensure the two sets data are identical, we need perform an operation called Synchronization; that is to say as one data source is updated the information will update the other data source. So Synchronization is the process of ensuring two sets of data look identical.

Generally speaking, in two data sources, one is perceived as the “server end”, and the other is viewed as the “client end”. In the process of Synchronization, the “server end “will do more work because server end has more powerful computing and process ability.

For example, there are many contacts in Microsoft Outlook; there are also many contacts in the phone. How do we make sure these two sets of contacts are the same? Synchronization can help with this issue.

If the same contacts in both data sources have been modified differently, conflicts may occur when the Synchronization takes place. Before Synchronization, end users can select a policy to resolve this conflict. For further information please refer to Conflict solution policies.

Since the last Synchronization, no Synchronization within a long time or too many modifications made in a short time will both lead to overflow of “Change Log”. In the next Synchronization, Slow-Sync will happen.

If the information in one side of the data source is deleted carelessly or by accident, and you would like to recover this through Synchronization from the other side of data source, you should select Slow-Sync. Because if the condition for Auto select is true in this situation, the software will wrongly take it for granted that end users hope to delete the corresponding data from B data source.

The best precaution to take is to back up the data into a separate folder in the PC. The data can then be imported from the backup into a data source and synchronize with the other source by Slow-Sync.

It is important that you should regularly backup your data sources for future data recovery.

The data types that a phone can synchronize with Microsoft Outlook include contacts and calendars. The data type that phone can synchronize with Microsoft Outlook Express only includes contact at present.

The Phone can synchronize respectively with Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express and Notes.
